Five years after the end of the terrible Second World War, the member states of the Council of Europe, founded in 1949, signed the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) in a very short time (1950). It finally came into force 70 years ago, on 3 September 1953, and five years later (1958) Austria became a member of the ECHR. To mark Austria's 70th birthday and 65 years of membership of the ECHR, Prof. Dr. Anita Ziegerhofer, Institute for Legal Studies, is organising the eighth Legal History Dialogue.
