Awarded with the Linda Rauter Prize

f.l.t.r.: Walter Doralt, Thomas Garber, Viktoria Robertson, Felix Hohenberg, Anna Roschitz, Franziska Guggi, Anna Lena Hörzer, Antonia Erhart, Wolfgang Braza, Erika De Wet

The Institute of International Law is pleased to announce that university assistant Anna Lena Hörzer, along with five other graduates, has been awarded the Linda Rauter Prize 2022 for diploma theses with international relevance.

In her diploma thesis entitled "A critical appraisal of the international criminal court's decisions in the case of The Prosecutor v. Omar Hassan Ahmad Al Bashir", Ms Hörzer critically examined legal issues surrounding the immunity of heads of state, the pacta tertiis principle, the legal nature of referrals from the United Nations Security Council and obligations to cooperate with the International Criminal Court. The main objective of the thesis was to critically assess the jurisprudence of the International Criminal Court in the Al Bashir case to date, as well as to provide a systematisation of the approaches advocated in the debate around the various legal issues. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr. Erika de Wet, LL.M. (Harvard).

Since 2021, the prize in memoriam Linda Rauter has been awarded for outstanding achievements of young lawyers in the context of the diploma thesis. The Linda Rauter Prize 2022 was very generously supported by the law firms Kaan Cronenberg & Partner and Dr. Thomas Romauch & Dr. Elke Romauch. More information on the Linda Rauter Prize and this year's award ceremony can be found here.
