As part of the "Telders Moot Court Competition", students are given the opportunity to gain an insight into the practice of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague and to conduct a simulated ICJ trial based on a fictitious case.
After the announcement of this year's fictitious case and the completion of the memorials, the team of the 47th Telders Moot Court Competition of the Karl-Franzens-University Graz (KFU) took part in another pre-moot workshop at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf (HHU) from 3 to 6 April. Together with the participants from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU), the team from Graz was able to gain valuable experience in terms of their rhetorical skills.
At the beginning of the workshop, the focus was on training spontaneity when answering questions. After a series of exercises, the participants were then able to put their argumentation to the test in a first pleading against each other. Dr Ulrich Brauer and his colleagues from Jones Day kindly made themselves available for this purpose. The participants' arguments were put to the test with critical questions. The next day, the two teams were again allowed to compete against each other in a pleading. Anna Lena Hörzer, BA (KFU) and Wiss.-Mit. Christoph Witthaut (HHU) took on the role of judges. The participants also had the opportunity to exchange and get to know each other better over several dinners together and on a sightseeing tour of Düsseldorf.
The Institute of International Law and International Relations would like to take this opportunity to thank Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf in particular for organising and holding the workshop. Special thanks also go to the team coaches Univ.-Prof. Dr Charlotte Kreuter-Kirchhof and Wiss.-Mit. Marie Schetter (for the HHU team).
The team of this year's Telders Moot Court for the Karl-Franzens-University consists of Natascha Gojkovic and Sophie Lutzmayr. Since submitting their memorials at the beginning of March, they have been preparing intensively for their presentation in the oral part of the moot court. The Graz team is being coached by Professor Dr Erika de Wet, LL.M (Harvard ) and Anna Lena Hörzer, BA.
