On 10 September 2025, the Department of International Law and International Relations hosted a doctoral seminar with Prof. Martti Koskenniemi. Doctoral candidates had the opportunity to present excerpts and insights from their ongoing research and to engage in an intensive scholarly discussion with Prof. Koskenniemi.
The seminar opened with a brief lecture by Prof. Koskenniemi, in which he addressed a number of thought-provoking aspects of academic work. Following a short break, during which discussions continued informally, the doctoral candidates presented their research findings. The topics included the legal possibilities for inter-state cooperation in the field of energy security through renewable energy, as well as questions regarding international legal responsibility for the failure to prevent war crimes.
This was followed by a lively academic exchange between the doctoral candidates and Prof. Koskenniemi, providing numerous valuable insights and guidance for the further development of their dissertations.
The seminar was also attended by a number of students, who were able to gain important insights into both the practice of scholarly research and a range of issues in international law.
The Department of International Law and International Relations extends its gratitude to all participants, and in particular to Prof. Koskenniemi for making this seminar a great success.
