Head of the Department, Prof. Erika de Wet, was a guest on “EJIL: The Podcast!” (Episode 42). She discussed with Megan Donaldson, Lauri Mälksoo and Gulnaz Sharafutdinova whether a specifically “Russian” approach to international law can be identified. The discussion focused on historical continuities between Tsarist, Soviet and contemporary practices, as well as the significance of national perspectives within the framework of comparative international law.
Prof. de Wet contributed her expertise on collective security and linked the historically shaped debate to current challenges facing international and regional security orders. In doing so, she makes it clear that historical continuities and contemporary institutional developments must be thought together in order to better understand the dynamics of today’s international law.
