Developing Capacities for Sustainable Peace – UNI-ETC in Kosovo - English version below!

UNESCO Chair in Human Rights and Human Security Prof. Gerd Oberleitner, Prof. Wolfgang Benedek and Bernadette Knauder contributed to the HERAS (Higher Education, Research and Applied Science) conference on intercultural understanding, human rights and peacebuilding, held in Pristina/Kosovo 17-18 October 2019. They spoke on human rights and multiculturalism and the role of higher education institutions in peace building to a large audience of students and scholars of the region. The conference was moreover attended by participants from Kosovo institutions, such as the Constitutional Court and the Office of the Prime Minister.

The conference was organized in the framework of the ongoing HERAS Programmatic Partnership between the UNI-ETC and University of Pristina, financed by the Austrian Development Cooperation, that marks the most recent step in a long-standing, successful partnership.

The Institute of International Law and International Relations and the UNI-ETC have contributed to the enhancement of capacities at the faculty of law of the university of Pristina for two decades. Notable achievements include the creation of a Human Rights Centre and a Human Rights Library, as well as the development of the current law curriculum and the supervision of numerous PhD students, who went on to become e.g. Deans of faculties or Judges at the Constitutional Court of Kosovo.
