The Institute of International Law and International Relations is delighted to announce Prof. Erika de Wet’s new book „Military Assistance on Request and the Use of Force“.
The monography offers an authoritative assessment of the legal framework regulating governments' requests for military assistance from third States or international organizations and examines how the proliferation of such military assistance on request has impacted on the rules governing the use of force. Furthermore, the publication systematically maps the post-Cold War practice of military assistance on request, including inter alia the practice of the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States, as well as the situations in Iraq, Libya, Syria and Yemen.
More information about this book, which is due for publication in March 2020, can be found here.
