ORF III Spezial, Sendung 1.3.2026: Prof. Karimi Schmidt "Attack on Iran"

The situation in the Middle East is escalating once again: On February 28, Israel and the US launched an airstrike on Iran. The country's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed in the attack. Iran's president called it a declaration of war against Muslims. Now, a fierce offensive against the US and Israel is planned. "If Iran does this, we'll escalate things," declared US President Donald Trump.

What is happening? Who is pursuing what interests? And how brutal will the fighting become?

Reiner Reitsamer (ORF) discusses these questions with the following guests:

Heinz Gärtner, political scientist and US expert
Siroos Mirzaei, Iranian physician and human rights activist
Yvonne Karimi-Schmidt, international law and Middle East expert
Walter Feichtinger, former brigadier and military expert
