(International) Law & Practice Workshop with ITLOS judge Prof. Dr. Liesbeth Lijnzaad

“Can a prisoner of war be an uber driver?”

Prof. Dr. Liesbeth Lijnzaad is a Dutch judge at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) and former head of the International Law Office at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. (https://www.itlos.org/en/main/the-tribunal/members/judge-liesbeth-lijnzaad/) In her workshop, Prof. Dr. Liesbeth Lijnzaad will work with 20 REWI doctoral students from Graz on interesting and important aspects of working at an international tribunal and take a look behind the scenes of negotiations before an international courts and tribunals.

Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Liesbeth Lijnzaad will deal with questions of dynamic interpretation of treaties and the relevance of interpretation for various legal sub-disciplines, with particular reference to the work of international bodies such as the ICRC, as well as by means of a case study from international humanitarian law.

The workshop is scheduled to take place on Friday, 12 May 2023 from 9:00 am to approximately 4:00 pm and is intended for a maximum of 20 REWI doctoral students. Participation in the workshop is free of charge and catering will be provided on site, which is why we ask for binding registration in advance by Monday, 3 April 2023 at the latest at voelkerrecht(at)uni-graz.at.
