This year's Faculty Day of the Faculty of Law at the University of Graz took place on 5 May 2023 and was dedicated to current global challenges.
Leading (inter)national experts provided exciting insights into common solutions, the law of tomorrow and eye-opening background developments in lectures and discussions on the topics of liability rules for AI systems, climate processes, climate activism and civil disobedience, "elastic" borders, the defence of the rule of law and much more.
Some (affiliated) members of the Institute of International Law were also involved, such as Prof. Erika de Wet, who officially announced the plenary speaker Prof. Kathryn Hendley (University of Wisconsin), and Ass.-Prof. Benedikt Harzl, who commented on Prof. Hendley's lecture on "Legal Dualism as a Framework for analysing the Role of Law under Authoritarianism". In addition, Prof. Paul Gragl gave a panel lecture on "Civil Disobedience: Definitions and Legal Philosophical Considerations".
Furthermore, the European Training and Research Centre for Human Rights and Democracy of the University of Graz (UNI-ETC) and the Centre for Eastern European Law (ZOR) organised two afternoon panels each on the following topics with the assistance of (affiliated) members of the Institute:
- The Right to Science (UNI-ETC)
- Living Human Rights at Universities (UNI-ETC)
- Ukraine - Current Issues of Law and Politics (ZOR)
- Russia, quo vadis? (ZOR)
