From 01-03 June 2023, the 46th Austrian International Law Day took place at the Johannes Kepler University Linz under the general theme "The Times They Are A-Changin' (Bob Dylan)".

This year's conference focused in particular on the international legal classification of the war in Ukraine and its consequences as well as on current developments in the digital world.

Among the numerous speakers were several members of the Institute of International Law and International Relations of the University of Graz, including Univ.-Prof.i.R. Dr. Wolfgang Benedek with his presentation on the topic of "The Determination of Violations of IHL and Human Rights" based on the report of the OSCE Expert Mission, as well as Univ.-Prof. Dr. Erika de Wet, LL.M. (Harvard), who shed light on issues surrounding the legality of sanctions in her presentation.

In addition, Professor of Practice Univ.-Prof. Ambassador Dr. Helmut Tichy chaired the "Practitioners' Panel", which has become an integral part of every International Law Day, with reports by the respective heads of the international law offices of the foreign ministries of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The Institute of International Law and International Relations at the University of Graz is pleased about the interesting expert discussions and would like to thank the organisers of the 46. Österreichischer Völkerrechtstag!
