Preis für „Best Written Submission“

Team der Uni Graz qualifizierte sich für das Finale der European Human Rights Moot Court Competition in Strasbourg und gewann einen Preis für den besten Schriftsatz

Von 15. bis 18. Februar fand am Europäischen Gerichtshof für Menschenrechte in Straßburg (Frankreich) zum vierten Mal die Finalrunde der European Human Rights Moot Court Competition statt, die von ELSA International in Kooperation mit dem Europarat organisiert wird. Das Team der Universität Graz, bestehend aus Daniela Bamer, Thomas Neuhold, Bernhard Wetschko und Lily Zechner, konnte sich durch eine ausgezeichnete schriftliche Leistung für dieses Finale der besten 16 Teams Europas qualifizieren.

Die Teilnahme an dem Wettbewerb erfordert von den Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern nicht nur ein besonderes Interesse und fundiertes Wissen im Bereich der Europäischen Menschenrechtskonvention, sondern vor allem auch großes Engagement, denn die Vorbereitung im Wintersemester ist ziemlich intensiv. Das Team muss einen Fall bearbeiten, der (fiktiv) an den EGMR herangetragen wird. Dabei müssen Schriftsätze verfasst werden, in denen sowohl für die Seite des Beschwerdeführers, als auch für die staatliche Seite argumentiert werden muss. Nach der Einreichung dieser Schriftsätze startet das Training für die mündlichen Vorträge vor dem Gerichtshof, in denen man sowohl inhaltlich als auch rhetorisch überzeugen muss.

Das arbeitsintensive Wintersemester hat sich für das diesjährige Team in mehrfacher Hinsicht bezahlt gemacht. Einerseits bekam man die Gelegenheit in den Räumlichkeiten des EGMR vor internationalen Experten im Bereich der EMRK aufzutreten und so einmalige Erfahrungen zu sammeln. Andererseits konnte heuer auch erstmals ein Preis nach Österreich geholt werden: in der Kategorie „Best Respondent Written Submission“ setzte man sich gegen die University of Cambridge durch (welche alle anderen Preise für sich entscheiden konnte) und erreichte den großartigen ersten Platz.
